Foursquare has updated its Places Enterprise API to include an all-new autocomplete endpoint that promises to simplify the process of location and address entry. The new endpoint leverages a robust database of location data that encompasses details from 250 countries and territories.
In addition to the inclusion of comprehensive location data, this new endpoint is designed to provide real-time search results as a user types. The company outlined the value of this upgrade in a blog post that stated:
“... our POI database is compiled from user-generated content – including billions of explicit check-ins from our consumer-facing apps (FSQ Rewards, Swarm, and City Guide). As a result, our Places products include rich information like photos, tips, and reviews that we then enrich with authoritative third-party data and web crawls - all meticulously maintained for daily releases.”
Foursquare is also touting future advancements to the Places Enterprise API that should be announced this fall, so make sure to check back for updates.
